February 4, 2007 Dear Members of the Santa Barbara Motorcycle Club: There has never been a better time to enjoy motorcycles. Modern motorcycles are the most capable motorcycles ever made, whether your desire is to cruise across America or race the Baja 1000. The bikes are very well made, reliable, fast, efficient and quiet. There exists seemingly an endless variety of makes and models making it easy to find exactly the motorcycle that you want. So now that you’ve got a great bike or two, what do you want to do? You want to RIDE! That’s where we come in. I have several goals for the SBMC for 2007, but the highest among them is simply that we ride more often with one another. Riding with your friends makes the ride more enjoyable and if something goes awry it’s great to have help right by your side - and SBMC members have a long standing and honorable tradition of doing whatever it takes to help out a fellow member in need! Riding together, learning from each other and enjoying each other’s company is the most important thing we do. We are going to discuss upcoming rides – both dirt and street oriented – at each of our monthly meetings which are currently being held at the Endless Summer Grill (upstairs above Chuck’s at the Waterfront) at the Santa Barbara Harbor. This is held the 1st Thursday evening of every month. Dinner is at 6pm and the meeting begins at 7pm. Please join us! I am going to try and keep the meeting fun and enjoyable for everyone. We are already in the planning stages for a “big” Spring street ride that will end up at someone’s home for a pot-luck barbecue dinner. Hopefully we will come up with a similar Fall ride that is dirt oriented. Even if you can’t commit the day to a lot of riding we WANT you to be there for dinner and the festivities! For our monthly meetings I would like to introduce some new topics such as: · Tool Of The Month · Maintenance Tip of The Month · Street Riding Tip of The Month · Dirt Riding Tip of the Month · I am also going see if we can get someone to speak to us on trail-side (and road-side) First Aid recommendations. We have some very knowledgeable and skilled riders in our group – and some of them are wonderful mechanics – I am going to be asking for volunteers to present “tip of the month” ideas to the Club so don’t be shy! Trail maintenance. Boy that sounds like work, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because it is. But we have to work to protect the few trails we have. We’re already planning to select a Sunday in February to do trail maintenance in Kerry Canyon (requested by the Forest Service). Hopefully we can get a lot of work done and get some riding in too! Please join us if you can. We also have an Online store opening soon that will enable you to purchase SBMC logo shirts, hats, sweatshirts and other items thanks to a great job done by Chuck Drew! SBMC members have taught me everything I know about dirt riding (okay, I know, I still need work!) and I have had tremendous fun getting to know all of you and having you there to laugh alongside me as we pick up my bike. I am looking forward to many more fun dirt and street rides in 2007! Join us and thank you to all you have done to make riding more enjoyable for me. Sincerely, Jim Ciontea President
